  • Agecroft Hall & Gardens – 4305 Sulgrave Rd., Richmond, VA 23221
    Agecroft Hall & Gardens
    has a fascinating history that stretches across the Atlantic, with a Virginia businessman purchasing the historic English home before having it dismantled, moved across the ocean, and reconstructed in Richmond. See the historic 16th-century home and gardens, which are open to visitors every Tuesday - Sunday from 12:00 – 5:00 PM. Agecroft Hall & Gardens is located down the street from Virginia House, another historic place on our list, so this is also a great neighborhood for a historic walk after you tour the property.

  • Maggie L. Walker National Historic Site – 600 N. 2nd St., Richmond, VA 23219
    A community organizer, businesswoman, and advocate for Civil Rights, Maggie L. Walker lived a legendary life in Richmond. She was a bank president, fraternal leader, and newspaper editor, in addition to her extensive work in the community. The Maggie L. Walker National Historic Site includes her former home, which has been preserved for more than a century and features a wide range of exhibits on her role in Richmond's history. Starting in spring 2025, the site will be open for tours during select hours every Friday and Saturday.

  • John Marshall House – 818 E. Marshall St., Richmond, VA 23219
    A judge who played a key role in the foundation of the Supreme Court, John Marshall had a home constructed in Richmond 1790, and lived there until his death in 1835. The John Marshall House has been preserved as a museum and is open for tours from March through December every year. You can tour the home on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays during that time period, from 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM each day.

  • Virginia House – 4301 Sulgrave Rd., Richmond, VA 23221
    Are you planning a wedding, family reunion, or another big event that you'd love to host on a beautiful, historic Richmond property? Virginia House is maintained by the Richmond Museum of History & Culture and is available to be rented for events, including weddings. Like Agecroft Hall, Virginia House was originally built in England before being deconstructed and rebuilt in Richmond. The home still features its original woodwork and antiques, as well as gorgeous gardens designed by noted designer Charles Freeman Gillette.

  • Poe Museum – 1914 E. Main St., Richmond, VA 23223
    Do you love the spooky, dark stories of Edgar Allan Poe? He spent the early years of his life in Richmond after being taken in by a local couple, John and Frances Allan. The Poe Museum is packed with artifacts from his life, exhibits on how he spent his time in Richmond, and deeper insights into some of his most famous works. The museum recently underwent an Exhibit and Visitor Experience Redesign project, so this is a great time for a visit.
