Richmond is a fantastic place to live for all kinds of reasons. As you begin your house hunt, you're sure to notice not only the natural beauty of the local area but how vibrant the community is. It shines through in so many aspects of life in Richmond.
One of those is the amount of public art.
And the Richmond Mural Project demonstrates that like nothing else.

Murals are a fantastic way to brighten a city's urban landscape. They help to bring out some of the top artists in the local area and get people more excited about living where they do.
That's the cornerstone of the Richmond Mural Project, which got its start all the way back in 2012. Then, the Broad Street downtown corridor was designated as Richmond's official Arts and Cultural District, making it among the vanguard of a new wave of such areas nationwide.
The issue: There wasn't quite enough art in the Arts and Cultural District.
Alongside the newly launched RVA Street Art Festival, Richmond officials and community members joined together and created the Mural Project. The project kicked off with a bang.

What happened next is truly astounding.
The Richmond Mural Project attracted artists worldwide bringing 100 murals to our city in its first five years. This achievement far exceeded the project's original goals. These works cover a variety of themes and have gone well beyond the Arts District.
Top global muralists have participated in the project, including entrants from such far-flung locations as Amsterdam and Kiev, as well as U.S. visual artists from New York, North Carolina, Maryland – and, of course – the Richmond, VA region itself.

The Richmond Mural Project is another plank in the city's ongoing efforts to attract tourists from all walks of life to town. And it's working: The area is enriched by more than $2 billion in tourist dollars every year.
Residents of the area also benefit from this focus on making Richmond welcoming and liveable all year around. Leading chefs have been attracted to the city to open restaurants. Richmond's theaters and museums are thriving.
Richmond's famous street art regularly appears in travel guides, advertising campaigns, and much more. You can see it everywhere you look – and you will once you decide to make your big move to Richmond. And we can make it easier than ever.
